PATIENT INFORMATION

Know what to expect.

A little preparation can make your visit more efficient and help keep the focus where it belongs—on understanding your symptoms, your goals and the most appropriate next steps.

A smoother visit starts before you arrive.

Every patient and every treatment plan is different. The information below can help you prepare for an evaluation or procedure, while any instructions specific to your care will be provided individually.

Bring the information that helps tell the full story.

When available, bring a current medication list, relevant imaging or reports, prior treatment records and any referral or authorization information provided by your health plan or referring clinician.

Requirements can vary by health plan.

Insurance participation, referral requirements and prior authorization rules vary. These details should be confirmed during scheduling so that any required documentation can be addressed before your visit or procedure.

Follow the instructions for your specific procedure.

Medication guidance, eating or drinking restrictions, transportation needs and arrival timing may differ by procedure. Follow the instructions provided to you rather than making medication changes on your own.

Next steps are based on your individual care plan.

Your plan may include additional evaluation, conservative treatment, an interventional procedure or follow-up after treatment. Any restrictions, medication guidance or follow-up recommendations will be reviewed with you.

Helpful answers before your visit.

These are general guidelines. Instructions specific to your visit or procedure should always take priority.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a current medication list and any relevant imaging, reports or prior treatment records you have available. Insurance, referral or authorization information may also be helpful when applicable.

Do I need a referral?

That depends on your health plan and the type of care being scheduled. Referral and authorization requirements should be confirmed during the scheduling process.

Should I stop any medications before a procedure?

Do not stop prescription medications unless you have been given specific instructions to do so. Medication guidance varies by procedure and by the individual patient.

Will I need someone to drive me home?

Some procedures may require transportation arrangements while others may not. You will be given procedure-specific instructions when your treatment is scheduled.

What happens at the first visit?

The initial evaluation focuses on your symptoms, prior treatment, relevant examination findings and available imaging so that the likely pain generator and reasonable treatment options can be considered together.

Does every patient need a procedure?

No. A procedure is considered only when it has a clear clinical rationale and fits the diagnosis, prior care and the patient’s individual goals.
